We hope you had a great day at camp today and read on to be prepared for Thursday.

Please remind campers to put their phone away and focus on the programs and friends.

Camper Need a Break?
We have a safe ‘break’ space for Campers who need a moment to breathe, play with fidgets, have a quiet space, calm themselves, and take a moment. We know camp week can be long and sometimes overwhelming and have a space for any Camper (or Parent) who needs this moment. This space is the conference room located to the right (if you are looking at the coolers with Jarritos) of where lunch is served.

Camp T-Shirts
Are you from out of town and would like your camper’s shirt washed (it has been so warm!)? On your way out, drop it in the hamper by the exit and a parent will wash and bring them back the next morning. And parents, if you didn’t plan for the heat and need to toss a t-shirt in there too, no problem- go for it!

Camp Specialty Colombia 2023
Did you know that if you place money in the donation basket at lunch, this money is donated to Children’s Home Society of Minnesota Columbia program? Thus far, you have donated $212 and because PLAC will double-match up to $2000 our current donation is $636. You can also donate at the check-in desk as there is a donation box with flowers on it. Check under your car seats and bring your spare change!  You can read more about CHLSS’s work in Colombia here: https://chlss.org/support-colombia/
On Thursday, campers will cook traditional Colombian dishes. Today, Elissa Cedarleaf Dahl visited to share information about murals across Colombia and the campers made a mural. This link includes more about her trip to Columbia. https://elissacedarleafdahl.com/Ethno-Tour-Ancestral-Route-Mural-Signage

Service Project
Thank you to everyone who has brought donations in for Bridges for Youth– you still have two days to bring anything in (aka, maybe if you don’t use that lotion, mouthwash, or shampoo/conditioner in your hotel, you can grab it and bring it in!)

Rec Tent/Room

Some fun new things are going on in the Rec Tent and the Rec Room.

All Week: TIC TAC TOC TOURNAMENT La Semana 2023
K through 11 can play daily when in the rec tent (probably outside building on the way to rec tent) Winner’s name goes on the daily winner list. On friday our biggest winners will compete at the fiesta.

Thursday: A different kind of piñata!
There will be balls of saran wrap that have pinata candy wrapped up inside. A person starts to unwrap it while a second person tries to get doubles rolling two dice. The person unwrapping the ball is also wearing oven mitts. Whatever you can get out of the ball is yours. Several people can play at one time. Possible other prizes in the ball – a note saying you get to go to the front of the line for lunch that day. Or a note saying you get a prize from the prize basket.

Lunch
Lunch is provided for campers and volunteers all week and is catered from El Burrito Mercado. Campers are also welcome to bring lunch instead and we have some refrigerator space available, if necessary.

Parent Education
Thursday Afternoon: 2:00pm-3:00pm @ Base Camp Leadership Center Join us for the Parent Panel: Los Alumnos. This panel will be an amazing opportunity to connect with the Alumni of La Semana, hear about their journey, learn more about the panel process, ask your questions, and learn what camp has meant to them over the years. Did you miss the Parent Education session Wednesday evening? Don’t fret, you can listen to our speaker’s Podcast titled, All Relative: Defining Diego wherever you listen to your Podcasts.

Fiesta Friday
Friday of camp week we will celebrate the end of the best week of the year with some special curriculum in the morning and wrap up the week in the afternoon with a special dance performance for all La Semana parents, volunteers, and fiesta participants. If you were not able to come to camp this year, this is a great time to visit! Campers will showcase the traditional Latin American dances they have been learning throughout the week and we will get a special performance from our sister program, Corazon Latino.    Fiesta will start at 1:00pm, if you are not a camper or volunteer, please do not arrive before then. Immediately following the Fiesta performance, plan to stick around for music, dance, food, games, T-shirt signing, and an ice cream truck! *Parents, we have sharpies – don’t worry!

Camp Pickup
Camp pickup is at 3:30. When you arrive, locate your child’s group outside of Base Camp. Each group will have its own spot (numbered by group numbers). Campers will stay with their chaperones until they are checked out by a parent/guardian or approved pick-up person. Because of Base Camp requirements, all children must be picked up by 3:45.  If your child is leaving camp early for any reason, you must sign them out with their chaperone. If your child is going to be gone on any day, notify their group volunteer. On Friday, parents may sign their children out at 1:00pm and participate in end-of-camp celebration activities with their children. Also note, if your child leaves Base Camp during the camp day, they will be unable to return unless physically signed back in with a parent (per our Code of Conduct).

Ayudantes
Now that you have met your Amiguitos, please join them during their curriculum during the allotted times on the schedule. If you have any questions, please see the Ayudante lead Michele. As a reminder, phones should not be out or used during camp.

Bridges for Youth Thank you to everyone who has brought donations in for Bridges for Youth– you still have two days to bring anything in (aka, maybe if you don’t use that lotion or shampoo in your hotel, you can grab it and bring it in!)
