A Typical Day

K – 11 Campers

Campers are grouped by age/grade level (typically K-2, 3-5, 6-8, 9-11) and rotate through daily activities together. A typical day includes a craft activity, dance practice in preparation for Friday’s fiesta, a presentation or activity related to the year’s specialty country, lunch, and most importantly, time with friends. Recreation activities such as rock climbing, archery, Gaga ball and soccer provides the opportunity for structured and unstructured fun for all. Special presentations or activities are often planned and incorporated each year, such as adoption panel discussions, cooking demonstrations, off-site field trips for teens, music demonstrations, etc.

Because Christianity is an important part of Latin American culture, children might hear about Christian holidays and traditions, but La Semana is a non-denominational camp open to children and families of all beliefs. Any discussion of religion is ONLY as it pertains to Latin American culture.

Ayudantes

This year’s graduates will have the opportunity to serve as Ayudantes (helpers) in the K-7 groups, crafts, the rec tent, and dance, as well as having some of their own programming. The Ayudante year serves as a bridge between being a camper and being part of Los Alumnos, the camp alumni who take on adult volunteer roles at camp.
