Senior Teens:
Camp 2019 will introduce new programming for Senior Teens! This program is designed with our teenage campers in mind, and will feature leadership training and skills building (including at Fort Snelling’s new Leadership Center, http://www.explorebasecamp.org/k-12-field-trips/emerging-leaders-field-trip); more presentations and activities on topics campers have asked for such as identity and healthy living; expanded service projects; and more time for socializing with La Semana friends. Campers entering 10th , 11th and 12th grades in Fall 2019 will have 5 days of programming, based at All Saints and traveling off site some days.
We know this is a big change for Camp and the community that has been created by coming back to Camp year after year; this new programming promises to continue Camp as a valuable place for our community to continue to learn and grow from each other. Senior Teens registration fees will be tied to the same volunteer structure as the K-9 campers. We’ll need parent and Alumni volunteers to make Senior Teens programming―and the rest of Camp―work!
Ayudantes:
Because international adoptions in Latin America are down, our camper numbers in the younger grades have decreased while those in the older grades have stayed robust. Because of this ratio, the Vision2019 committee and Parents of Latin American Children came up with this revised structure, changing the programming for 10th-graders through graduates. Only the campers who have just graduated in Spring 2019 will automatically be Ayudantes. That said, 12th-graders may apply to be Ayudantes again, and if there is the need and they can be accommodated in the classrooms, dance and Spanish, some 12th -graders (or possibly all who apply) will be pulled into the Ayudantes group along with the grads. Junior Teens will be 8th- and 9th-graders only.
Instructions for camper registration for 10th , 11th , 12th , and grads: Campers entering 10th or 11th grade in Fall 2019: register as a Sr. Teen. Campers graduating in Spring 2019: register as an Ayudante. Campers entering 12th grade in Fall 2019: register as a Sr. Teen. However, if you would prefer to apply for an Ayudante position, do not register now–email Ayudantes Chair, sr.teens@lasemana.org, for an application and further information will follow.
